“To get nations back on their feet, we must first get down on our knees.”  –Billy Graham

The Latin word for prayer is “Precor or  Precari” which means “to ask earnestly, beg, entreat”. It is an invocation or act that seeks to trigger a rapport with an object of worship through deliberate communication between one or more people. This means prayer is a dialogue and not a monologue.

Prayer can be a form of religious practice done individually or collectively and can take place in public or in private. It may involve the use of words, song or complete silence. Also prayer may take the form of a hymn, formal creedal statement, or a spontaneous utterance by the praying person.

There are different forms of prayer such as petitions, prayers of supplication, thanksgiving, and praise. Thus people pray to different object and for different reasons, but for the purpose of this post I am focusing on prayer that is made to “God Almighty” who made all things; and without him was not anything made that was made.

Why Should We Pray – For What Do We Pray?

Prayer is the key to the heart of God. Mathew 7:7

We pray acknowledging He is God, and that we accept His gracious gift, Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savior (Genesis 17:1, Romans 6:16-18).
We pray confessing our sins and accepting His forgiveness (Romans 3:23-26).
We pray for His will to be done in our lives, for God’s will brings strength and that His Holy Spirit guide us and that we be filled with the fullness of all God has for us.

Luke 22:42
For spiritual understanding and wisdom (Proverbs 2:6-8, Proverbs 3:5) we should depend on our own understanding.
We should not take nothing for granted, pray with thanksgiving for all the ways He blesses you (Philippians 4:6).
when we are ill, lonely, going through trials or interceding for others (James 5:14-16, 2 Corinthians 12:9-10). The great physician
We pray to worship Him (Psalm 95:6-7).

There is nothing we can’t pray about as there are abundant references to prayer in the Bible.
The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing and we should give thanks to the God in everything for he’s beautiful for all situation. When we choose to have a positive attitude, we realize we have received many blessings for which to give God praise.

However it should be noted that God is not a genie that gives you whatever we ask because:

It might interest you to also know that thanksgiving and praise is the only thing God needs from us for that’s the only thing he cannot do for himself. But mind you if we fail to praise or give him thanks the stones will replace us because no one is indispensable.

We find intimacy with God through communicating with Him in prayer as we go to Him in faith, knowing that He hears and answers all our prayers 1 John 5:14.

The bible in Isaiah 62:7 said we should not give God rest until he complete his work in our lives. So this month:
