We know who we are because we know what Christ did. What a wonderful foundation on which we stand on Christ the solid rock. He did for us what we could not do for ourselves. The more we know Him and understand His sovereignty and power, love, kindness, mercy, and forgiveness, the greater our confidence grow in Him. The Israelites were encouraged by Jeremiah to be mindful about boasting in their own accomplishments. Instead he said they ought to boast in the fact that they knew and understand God. Here’s his message from God:
In your heart, what do you boast about? Take a minute and examine what kind of things you feel give you your bragging rights. Where do you pat your yourself or tend to think you are better than others? Now let’s think about it can we boast that we know the Lord? This is one area in life we ought to boast about! We should brag in this one area, that we understand and know the Lord who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness. God delights in this kind of bragging.
If you are finding your identity and hope in mundane things, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
